About
Hoop Lake Trailhead Campground is a high elevation backcountry campground situated at 9,000 feet in the northeast corner of Utah within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Located between Flaming Gorge and Evanston, Wyoming, this remote destination offers 7 campsites nestled in a timbered setting with stunning views of Hoop Lake.
The campground provides direct access to Hoop Lake for fishing and boating, as well as proximity to Beaver Meadow Reservoir for additional fishing opportunities. As a trailhead campground, it serves as an ideal basecamp for accessing the High Uintas Wilderness, with numerous trails available for hiking and horseback riding. The area is rich with wildlife including elk, deer, moose, beaver, and a wide variety of birds, making it excellent for wildlife viewing and photography.
Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground operates on a mixed reservation and first-come, first-served basis. Due to the high elevation and remote location, campers should come prepared with their own water supply and be ready for variable mountain weather. The campground is managed by a concessionaire and operates seasonally from late spring through early fall.
Directions
From Mountain View, WY, take State Route 414 east 21.5 miles to Lonetree, WY. Just past mile marker 122, turn right onto County Route 290 and go 0.9 miles to an intersection with County Route 291. Turn left onto Route 291 and go 5 miles to a 'T' intersection. Turn right and go 2.8 miles to a 'Y' intersection and Hoop Lake sign (Forest Route 078). Bear left at the sign onto Route 078 and go 3.8 miles to another 'Y' intersection. Bear right and go 0.3 miles to the campground.
