FOREST LAKE DISPERSED AREA

Closed — Closed for winter. American Fork Canyon high-elevation areas typically become accessible from late May through mid-October depending on snow conditions.

About

Forest Lake Dispersed Area is located in American Fork Canyon within the Pleasant Grove Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This primitive camping area sits near Forest Lake, a scenic alpine destination popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts. The area is accessed via the Forest Lake OHV Trail, which features rocky terrain suitable for ATVs and four-wheel drive vehicles. Campers can find various dispersed sites in the area, though Forest Lake itself does not contain fish. The location offers opportunities to explore multiple OHV trails in the surrounding terrain, with abundant wildlife including deer and elk. The high-elevation setting provides a true backcountry experience with no developed amenities. American Fork Canyon and the Alpine Loop road system typically close due to snow from mid-October through late May. Winter access to high-elevation dispersed areas like Forest Lake is generally not possible during snow season. Dispersed camping follows Leave No Trace principles, with campsites located on durable surfaces at least 200 feet from water sources.
