About

Limber Flag Yurt is a primitive backcountry lodging facility located at 9,000 feet elevation in Ashley National Forest, approximately 20 air miles north of Vernal, Utah. The 20-foot diameter yurt provides year-round accommodations for up to 10 people, with two double-size bunk beds sleeping 8 inside and space for tent camping outside. The yurt includes basic amenities: a propane cook stove, wood-burning cast iron stove for heat, a portable propane lantern, basic cookware and utensils, a small indoor table with chairs, an outdoor vault toilet, and an outdoor fire pit. The Forest Service provides propane for cooking and wood for heating. There is no electricity, indoor plumbing, running water, or bedding, so visitors must bring sleeping bags, extra propane, mantles, and additional supplies. Access varies dramatically by season. From approximately June through October, the yurt is accessible by vehicle, though high-clearance 4WD is required. The rough forest roads are not suitable for RVs or travel trailers. During the snow season (approximately December through April), the yurt is accessed via a 3-mile nonmotorized trail requiring cross-country skis or snowshoes. The winter trail takes about 2 hours to ski and includes challenging sections through trees and climbs exceeding 10% grade. Snowmobiles are not permitted. The yurt is closed during muddy spring and fall conditions in November, April, and May. The surrounding area offers excellent hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, with Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area located within 25 miles.
