CASCADE SCENIC DRIVE DISPERSED AREA

Closed — Closed for winter. The Alpine Loop road (SR-92) closed on November 26, 2025 and typically remains closed through May due to snow and ice. The road reopens when conditions allow, generally in late spring.

About

Cascade Scenic Drive Dispersed Area offers primitive camping along the Alpine Scenic Loop (SR-92), one of the most popular scenic drives in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The area is situated near Cascade Springs in the Wasatch Mountains, providing access to forested mountain terrain with views of Mount Timpanogos and surrounding peaks. As a dispersed camping area, there are no developed facilities, amenities, or services. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing all necessary water, supplies, and equipment. The area requires following standard dispersed camping regulations including camping at least 200 feet from water sources and packing out all trash. The narrow, winding Alpine Loop road reaches elevations around 7,900 feet and passes through aspen groves and timbered areas. The Alpine Loop typically operates seasonally from May through late October, with winter closures due to snow and ice making the road impassable. During the open season, the area provides access to numerous hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and the nearby Cascade Springs Trail. This is a popular area during fall for viewing autumn colors in the aspen groves.
