About
Windwhistle Campground is a quiet, primitive BLM campground located 38 miles southwest of Moab in the Canyon Rims Recreation Area. The 15 individual sites are spread against the smooth sandstone of Roan Bailey Mesa at approximately 6,000 feet elevation, making it noticeably cooler than Moab during summer months. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, while all sites share a single vault toilet and seasonal water spigot. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the spectacular Canyon Rims area, with easy access to the Needles Overlook and proximity to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park and the Indian Creek climbing area. A one-mile nature trail begins at the campground, and the isolated location surrounded by cliffs and canyons offers outstanding stargazing opportunities far from city lights. Individual sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis at $20 per night, payable at the self-service fee station with exact cash or check. A separate group site is available for reservation through Recreation.gov. Stays are limited to 14 nights within any 30-day period.
Directions
Drive 32 miles south of Moab on Highway 191 to the Canyon Rims Recreation Area turn-off, then drive 6 miles west on the paved road.
