About
Windwhistle Campground is a quiet, scenic BLM campground located 38 miles southwest of Moab in the spectacular Canyon Rims Recreation Area. Nestled against the smooth sandstone of Roan Bailey Mesa at approximately 6,000 feet elevation, the campground provides a cooler alternative to lower-elevation camping around Moab during summer months. The campground features 16 individual sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, plus one group site that can be reserved through Recreation.gov.
Each individual campsite includes a parking pad for two vehicles, a picnic table, fire ring, and close proximity to vault toilets and trash receptacles. Sites are limited to 10 people and two vehicles (a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as two vehicles). The campground offers seasonal water access and maintains vault toilets year-round. A one-mile nature trail starts within the campground, and the remote location provides excellent nighttime star gazing opportunities.
Windwhistle serves as an ideal base for exploring the Canyon Rims Recreation Area, including the Needles and Anticline overlooks. The campground is situated on the road to Needles Overlook and provides access to hiking, off-highway vehicle trails, mountain biking, and the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. The stay limit is 14 nights within a 30-day period.
Directions
Drive 32 miles south of Moab on Highway 191 to the Canyon Rims Recreation Area turn-off, then drive 6 miles west on the paved road. The campground will be on your left.
