About
Mustang Ridge Campground occupies a striking high desert bluff above Flaming Gorge Reservoir at an elevation of 6,300 feet in Ashley National Forest. The campground offers 68 individual sites plus one group site accommodating up to 40 people, set among pinyon pine, juniper, and sagebrush vegetation that provides privacy between sites with partial shade. Outer loop campsites sit on the edge of the ridge with expansive views of the reservoir below. The campground features paved roads and parking spurs, flush restrooms and showers at the entrance, and vault toilets distributed throughout. An amphitheater with bleacher seating hosts ranger programs. The reservoir is accessible within half a mile, and an adjacent boat ramp provides direct access for boating, water skiing, and fishing. Sunny Cove Day Use Area nearby offers a quieter spot for swimming, kayaking, and rock climbing. Flaming Gorge Dam, just a few miles away, offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and a visitor center with area history exhibits. The Green River below the dam provides spectacular rafting with unique geology, outlaw history, and Native American rock art along the route.
