The campground is open seasonally when the Nebo Loop road is accessible. There is no gate at the campground itself. The Nebo Loop is a seasonal road that closes in winter due to snow. As of mid-May, the lower elevations of the Nebo Loop near Nephi are typically accessible, though higher sections may still have snow closures.

About

Cottonwood Campground offers a peaceful, primitive camping experience along the southern end of the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The campground sits at approximately 7,000 feet elevation in a shaded grove of cottonwood and maple trees, with a stream running alongside. Around 20 gravel sites are spread across two loops connected by gravel roads and spurs. This is a basic, low-cost camping option with vault toilets and picnic tables but no drinking water, hookups, or developed amenities. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply. The fee structure allows for multi-day stays: $10 for three days or $20 for seven days, with a maximum 7-day stay limit. Interagency Recreation Passes are honored. The Nebo Loop Scenic Byway is a seasonal road typically closed in winter due to snow. The campground provides access to the Mount Nebo Wilderness and surrounding trails, with Nephi just 8 miles away for supplies.

Directions

From Nephi, head east on UT-132 toward the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway. Continue approximately 8 miles on the Nebo Loop. The campground is on gravel roads accessed from the byway.
