About

Lower Bowns Campground is a small lakeside campground located on the east side of Boulder Mountain within the Fremont River Ranger District of Fishlake National Forest. Situated at 7,000 feet elevation on the shore of Lower Bowns Reservoir, the campground offers direct access to excellent fishing for rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. The reservoir allows non-motorized watercraft including canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and float tubes. The campground has five sites total: one group site accommodating up to 50 people with pull-through access, and four single sites each accommodating up to 10 people. The landscape is sparsely vegetated with pinyon pine and juniper, providing only limited shade. Gravel roads and parking spurs serve all sites. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on-site and all trash must be packed out. Capitol Reef National Park is approximately 45 minutes away, and the campground provides access to Utah Highway 12, a National Scenic Byway known for its stunning red rock canyons. OHVs are permitted within the campground for access only, and the Rosebud ATV Trail is nearby for off-highway recreation.

Directions

From Torrey, Utah, head east on UT-24 for approximately 1 mile. Turn right (south) onto UT-12 for 17.1 miles. Turn left (east) on Forest Road 168 for 3.1 miles. The campground will be on the left.
