About
Cedar Mesa Campground provides a remote backcountry camping experience in the Waterpocket District of Capitol Reef National Park. Located approximately 23 miles south of Utah Highway 24 on the Notom-Bullfrog Road at 5,500 feet elevation, this primitive campground serves as a base for exploring the park's less-visited southern reaches. The campground offers five tent-only sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grate. A pit toilet is available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Sites accommodate up to 8 people and 2 vehicles each. No reservations are accepted; all sites are first-come, first-served. Access requires navigating the Notom-Bullfrog Road, which is paved for approximately 15 miles south of Highway 24 before turning to dirt. Road conditions vary with weather, and high-clearance vehicles are usually needed. Visitors should check current road conditions with the Capitol Reef Visitor Center before making the trip.
Directions
From Utah Highway 24, turn south onto Notom-Bullfrog Road (approximately 9 miles east of the Capitol Reef Visitor Center). Continue south for approximately 23 miles. The road is paved for the first 15 miles, then turns to dirt. High-clearance vehicles are usually required for the dirt section.
