About
Carmel Campground is a primitive Forest Service campground located along Sheep Creek in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area on Ashley National Forest. The campground provides a peaceful escape with beautiful trees and a nearby creek that adds to the serene atmosphere. Sites feature picnic tables and fire rings, perfect for evening gatherings under the stars. The campground sits near the entrance of the Sheep Creek Geological Loop, a scenic drive offering breathtaking views and access to trails leading to caves and other natural wonders. Outdoor activities abound, with hiking trails and fishing opportunities just a short distance away. The Sheep Creek boat launch is also nearby for those looking to access Flaming Gorge Reservoir. This is a no-frills camping experience. Vault toilets and trash service are provided, but campers must bring their own drinking water. Vehicles are limited to two per single site and four per double site. Pets are welcome but must remain on a leash at all times.
Directions
From Manila, Utah, drive 3 miles south on UT-44, then turn right onto Forest Service Road 218 (Sheep Creek Geological Loop Road). Head west for approximately 6 miles to reach the campground.
