About
Carmel Campground is located near Manila, Utah, at the entrance of the Sheep Creek Geological Loop and just a few miles from the Sheep Creek boat launch on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. This developed campground provides a peaceful escape with mature trees and a nearby creek that adds to the serene atmosphere. The campground features interpretive displays that help visitors appreciate the surrounding area. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings under remarkable night skies. The area is known for excellent stargazing opportunities and catching meteor showers. The Sheep Creek Geological Loop offers breathtaking views and access to trails leading to caves and other natural wonders. Late August through September, visitors can observe vibrant Kokanee salmon spawning in the creek. Outdoor activities abound with hiking trails and fishing opportunities nearby. Flaming Gorge Reservoir offers excellent fishing for lake, brown, and rainbow trout, along with boating, waterskiing, and other water activities. The campground provides vault toilets and trash disposal but does not have potable water or showers, keeping the experience simple and straightforward. Sites are dirt and gravel, suitable for various camping setups.
Directions
Drive 3 miles south of Manila, Utah on UT-44 and turn right on Forest Service Road 218, Sheep Creek Geological Loop Road. Head west for 6 miles to the campground near Palisades Picnic Site.
