About

Intake Campground is located 1.4 miles up South Willow Canyon from the Forest boundary in the Stansbury Range. At 6,320 feet elevation, this small campground offers five individual campsites nestled in a remote desert canyon forested with oak, maple, and juniper trees. Willow Creek flows through the site, providing opportunities for rainbow and brown trout fishing. The campground serves as a convenient base for wilderness exploration, with the multi-use Stansbury Front Trail and Medina Flat Trail beginning directly across the road from the entrance. These trails provide access to the rugged Deseret Peak Wilderness for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. The South Willow Canyon Road is a scenic drive that becomes gravel at the National Forest boundary. While the road is mostly accessible, it winds through interesting narrows and is not recommended for trailers due to potholes and narrow sections. Snow typically covers the upper canyon from November through mid-June, making this a seasonal destination best enjoyed from late spring through early fall.

Directions

From I-80, take exit 99 for Stansbury-Tooele and head south on Highway 35 for 3.7 miles. Turn right onto Highway 138 and continue southwest for 11 miles to Grantsville. Turn left onto Cooley Street heading south and travel 5 miles to South Willow Canyon Road. The campground is located 1.4 miles up South Willow Canyon from the Forest boundary on a gravel road.
