About
Canyon Rim Campground is situated in a grassy subalpine meadow at 7,400 feet elevation, perched high above Flaming Gorge Reservoir along Red Canyon Road in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. The campground lies approximately 1 mile from stunning red cliffs that overlook the reservoir, surrounded by lodgepole and ponderosa pines that dot the landscape and provide limited shade. During summer months, the meadow comes alive with abundant wildflowers. The campground contains 18 family campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings, with some sites featuring grills. Vault toilets are available year-round, while drinking water is provided from mid-late May through mid-September. The campground offers both reservable sites and first-come, first-served options. No hookups are available, and each site accommodates a maximum of 2 vehicles. Nearby Greens Lake provides excellent opportunities for canoeing and fishing for rainbow and brook trout. Red Canyon Lodge sits on the lake shore, offering canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant, and a gift shop. The Red Canyon Rim Trail, popular for hiking and biking, begins at the nearby Red Canyon Visitor Center, which features interpretive displays and area information. The broader Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is renowned for its spectacular red cliffs, world-class fishing, boating, and access to the Green River below the dam for rafting adventures.
