Ashley National Forest Order 050115A1 regarding: Closure of Fishing from Concrete Boat Ramps on Flaming Gorge Reservoir
About
Miners Gulch Campground was located next to Rock Creek in the Rock Creek Drainage on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains at an elevation of 7,500 feet. Dense stands of aspens shaded the campground, with pines, sagebrush, and wildflowers dotting the surrounding landscape. The campground was set back from the main road for privacy and offered cool evenings typical of the high mountain environment. Rock Creek provided fishing opportunities for brown, brook, and rainbow trout, with seasonal whitewater rafting and kayaking also available. The nearby Rock Creek Trail connected to the High Uintas Wilderness, offering hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. Upper Stillwater Reservoir and Lower Stillwater Ponds were also nearby. The campground sustained irreparable damage from large debris in 2023 and is no longer open to the public. This closure appears to be permanent.
Directions
From Duchesne, Utah, take Highway 87 north for 15 miles to the Mountain Home turnoff. Turn left and continue 2.5 miles north to the Rock Creek Store. Turn left toward Rock Creek Canyon and proceed approximately 15-18 miles to the campground. You'll see a sign for Miners Gulch and a dirt road immediately after it. Do not take the dirt road. The campground turnoff is paved and is a few hundred yards after the sign.
