Currant Creek Work Center

Closed — Closed for winter. The high elevation location at 8,000 feet in the Uinta Mountains is snow-covered and inaccessible during winter months. The nearby Currant Creek Campground typically reopens in early June.

About

Currant Creek Work Center is a Forest Service administrative facility located in the Currant Creek area of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, approximately 8,000 feet elevation. The work center sits near Currant Creek Reservoir, surrounded by mixed conifer forests of aspen, fir, and lodgepole pine. The area offers access to rainbow and cutthroat trout fishing in the adjacent reservoir, as well as hiking and horseback riding trails throughout the surrounding mountains. The remote location requires traveling approximately 24 miles from Heber City on Highway 40, then navigating forest roads for several more miles. Roads in the area are partially paved and partially graded gravel. Wildlife including deer and elk are common in the area. Due to the high elevation and mountain location, the area typically experiences heavy snow in winter and limited accessibility during colder months.

Directions

From Heber City, take Highway 40 eastbound for approximately 24 miles, turn left onto Chick Creek/Co-op Creek Road. Continue 10 miles, then turn right onto Currant Creek Road. The work center is located approximately 4 miles ahead near Currant Creek Campground.
