About

Porcupine Rim Campground sits at the edge of one of Moab's most scenic overlooks, offering campers sweeping views of Castle Valley and the surrounding canyon country. The elevated position provides expansive vistas toward the La Sal Mountains and distant red rock formations. Morning light illuminates the landscape while evenings bring exceptional stargazing opportunities away from city lights. The campground features 16 designated sites spread across the rim, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. A vault toilet is located within 100 yards of most camping spots. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground is free but accessing it requires passing through Sand Flats Recreation Area, which charges a $20 per night entrance fee. Access requires navigating a bumpy dirt road off Sand Flats Road approximately 13 miles east of Moab. High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended, with 4WD needed to reach the uppermost sites where the most spectacular views are found. The location provides direct access to the legendary Porcupine Rim Trail and serves as a popular staging area for the Whole Enchilada mountain bike route.
