About
Windwhistle Group Site is a secluded walk-in group campsite tucked against the smooth sandstone of Roan Bailey Mesa in the Canyon Rims Recreation Area. Managed by the BLM Moab Field Office, this isolated site is surrounded by cliffs and canyons with excellent access to viewpoints, vistas, and backcountry exploration. The campground accommodates up to 25 people and features a fire ring with grate, picnic tables, and a nearby vault toilet. Situated on the road to the Needles Overlook and Hatch Point, the area offers outstanding hiking, mountain biking, and off-highway vehicle opportunities. The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park and Indian Creek climbing area are nearby, while Wilson Arch, Ken's Lake, and the La Sal Mountain Loop Road lie between the campground and Moab. Parking is limited and not appropriate for large vehicles, RVs, motorhomes, or trailers. Campers must walk in to the site. Water is typically available seasonally from May through September. There is no shade shelter, dump station, or electric hookups. A one-mile nature trail starts in the adjacent main campground, and the dark skies make for excellent stargazing.
Directions
From Moab, drive 32 miles south on US-191 to the junction with the Needles Overlook road. Turn right and travel 6 miles on this road. The campground is on the left side of the road.
