Moisture associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel will impact Utah this weekend bringing widespread rainfall totals ranging from 2-4". Some highly localized amounts to 6-8" are also possible, particularly across terrain-favored locations in southwestern Utah, the Book Cliffs, and Bear River Range. * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, Castle Country, Central Mountains, Eastern Juab/Millard Counties, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete Valley, Sevier Valley, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, Bryce Canyon Country, Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah, Southern Mountains, Upper Sevier River Valleys, Western Canyonlands, Lower Washington County, Southwest Utah and Zion National Park. This also includes recent burn scars such as Forsyth, Cottonwood, Silver King, France Canyon, and Monroe Canyon. * WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, dry washes, slot canyons, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as slickrock areas and recent burn scars. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Anomalously high moisture is forecast to impact the region with the arrival of the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel. * WHAT...South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected. * WHERE...The Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake Desert and Mountains, Tooele and Rush Valleys, Cache Valley/Utah Portion, Wasatch Back, Bear Lake and Bear River Valley, and Sanpete Valley. * WHEN...From 3 AM Saturday to 6 AM MDT Sunday. Winds will initially start off Saturday morning as southwesterly downslope off favored terrain, such as the Oquirrhs, before becoming more widespread in the late morning to early afternoon hours. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects and a few power outages may result.
About
Palisade State Park sits along the shores of Palisade Reservoir in Sanpete County, approximately 133 miles south of Salt Lake City. The park provides a well-developed camping experience with 85 total sites distributed across four campgrounds: Arapeen, Pioneer, Sanpitch, and Wakara. Accommodations range from standard no-hookup tent sites to full-hookup RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Ten cabins are also available, three with full amenities including indoor restrooms and showers, and seven with basic amenities. The reservoir is the centerpiece of recreation here, offering fishing (rated good conditions), swimming, paddling, and boating with electric motors only. Boat and paddling equipment rentals are available seasonally. The park also features an 18-hole desert canyon golf course with an on-site grill restaurant. Nearby Six-Mile Canyon and the Arapeen ATV trail system provide off-highway vehicle access for OHV enthusiasts. Each campsite comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Modern restrooms with hot showers are available, though showers close from 10am to 5pm to conserve water. A dump station serves RV campers. Reservations can be made 2 days to 4 months in advance through Utah State Parks. Maximum stay is limited to 5 nights, with quiet hours from 10pm to 7am.
