About
Located in the remote canyons of eastern Utah, Westwater Campground occupies a valley along the Colorado River at a critical juncture for river runners. The campground serves as both the take-out for the 25-mile Ruby-Horsethief section and the put-in for the challenging Westwater Canyon section with its Class IV rapids. Views of Navajo Sandstone walls surround the valley, and the site is adjacent to the Westwater Wilderness Study Area.
The campground provides 11 sites total, with sites 1-7 available first-come, first-served and sites 8-11 by reservation only through Recreation.gov. Each site accommodates up to 10 people and two vehicles, with the understanding that a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as two vehicles. A group site is also available. The remote location offers access to Kokopelli's Trail, a 140-mile mountain bike route from Loma, Colorado to Moab, Utah, along with motorized and non-motorized trails to the north. Moab and the national parks lie approximately 70 miles southwest.
