About

East Fork Designated Dispersed offers primitive, no-fee camping along the scenic East Fork of the Sevier River corridor in Utah's Dixie National Forest. Located on the Powell Ranger District near Tropic Reservoir at approximately 7,900 feet elevation, this area provides access to high-elevation forest and river scenery in Garfield County. The 10 designated sites are spread along Forest Road 087, offering a mix of single-unit sites (1, 7-10) and multi-unit sites (2-6) that can accommodate groups. As designated dispersed camping, this is a primitive experience with no developed facilities. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing their own water and packing out all trash. Campfires are permitted unless fire restrictions are in effect. The designation system was established in 2021 to protect the sensitive riparian habitat along the East Fork of the Sevier River while still providing dispersed camping opportunities. Standard National Forest dispersed camping rules apply: 16-day stay limit before moving at least 10 miles, motorized vehicles limited to 150 feet from designated routes, and campsites must be at least 300 feet from water sources. The area is typically accessible late spring through fall, with access dependent on seasonal road conditions and snow levels.

Directions

From Tropic, Utah, head west on UT-12, then turn south onto Forest Road 087 (East Fork Road). The designated dispersed camping sites are located along FR 087 near Tropic Reservoir and along the East Fork of the Sevier River corridor.
