About
Swasey's Beach Campground is a BLM-managed recreation site located beside Swasey's Rapid on the Green River, serving as the takeout point for river runners floating Desolation-Gray canyons and the Green River Daily section. The campground features 12 sites, including some designed for large groups, each with metal fire rings, picnic tables, and camping pads. The site is shaded by large cottonwood trees and features a white sand beach popular for swimming and relaxing during warm months.
Located within a scenic river canyon with steep canyon walls, the campground sits along a designated Wild and Scenic River Recreational Segment. The surrounding riparian ecosystem provides relief from summer heat, while Hastings Road offers scenic drives with views of Desolation Canyon Wilderness across the river. Thousands of visitors use this area annually for river access, beach recreation, fishing, and camping, particularly on summer weekends. The campground is maintained by BLM rangers who patrol the area, though visitors are responsible for their own safety as there are no lifeguards.
The day use area includes beach access, picnic tables, and fire rings under the cottonwoods. Wildlife viewing opportunities include bighorn sheep that frequent the water's edge. Campfires are only allowed in provided fire rings and are prohibited on the beach. The site provides barrier-free access for visitors with disabilities.
