About

Lone Rock Beach Primitive Camping Area provides a unique camping experience on the sandy shores of Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Located just north of the Arizona-Utah state line off Highway 89, this primitive camping area features no designated campsites, allowing campers to set up anywhere on the beach or in the dunes. The area is popular with RV and tent campers alike, though sandy conditions require confidence in driving on sand. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Sites accommodate a maximum of two vehicles per camping spot. Open fires are permitted within a four-foot squared area below the high-water mark where there is no vegetation. The beach also features a designated Off Road Vehicle play area. Glass containers are prohibited, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Amenities vary by season. Year-round facilities include vault toilets and a dump station. From approximately mid-April through October, additional services are available including micro-flush toilets, restrooms with wheelchair-accessible comfort stations, outdoor cold showers, and potable water. During winter months, these seasonal facilities close and campers are encouraged to bring their own portable toilet systems and adequate water supplies. The beach itself is not ADA accessible due to its sandy terrain, though an accessible restroom is available at the end of the paved area. Limited cellular service means rangers may not patrol daily, and visitors should be prepared for self-sufficiency. The desert environment ranges from over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to freezing temperatures in winter, with late summer monsoon storms potentially washing out roads.
