About

Temple Mountain Campground West is located at the intersection of Temple Mountain and Behind-the-Reef Roads, two miles west of the turnoff to Goblin Valley State Park in the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area. The campground sits at the base of the San Rafael Reef, one of the most distinctive geologic features of central Utah—a 75-mile-long rocky spine that reaches up to 1,000 feet high and forms the eastern edge of the San Rafael Swell. The campground has nine individual first-come, first-served campsites and one group site with a large pavilion area. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings. Two vault toilets serve the campground, along with an information kiosk. The sites are scattered within flat dirt parking areas suitable for large recreational vehicles and tent camping. The campground provides hiking access to historic mines in the area. Visitors should come prepared as there is no potable water, trash service, or electrical hookups. The campground operates on a 14-day stay limit within a 28-day period. The area is popular with off-road enthusiasts, as Behind-the-Reef Road passes through the campground and provides access to numerous slot canyon hikes including Bell, Ding, Dang, Little Wildhorse, and Crack Canyons.
