About

Storm Mountain Day Use Area provides convenient access to Big Cottonwood Canyon recreation just 3 miles from the canyon entrance. Set among mature oak and aspen trees at the base of Storm Mountain, the picnic area features a mix of reservable group sites and individual first-come, first-served sites, all equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Big Cottonwood Creek flows through the area, offering trout fishing opportunities. The facility includes a historic stone amphitheater available for reservation, flush toilets, horseshoe pits, and paved roads and parking areas. Most sites are accessible. A playground provides entertainment for children. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. daily during the operating season. As a watershed area providing drinking water for Salt Lake City, pets are strictly prohibited. Wading and water play are not allowed. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring Big Cottonwood Canyon's numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, rock climbing areas, and nearby attractions including Solitude Mountain Resort.
