About

Storm Mountain Day Use Area is a scenic day-use picnic facility nestled among shady oaks and aspens at the foot of rugged Storm Mountain in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Just 3 miles from the canyon entrance, it offers convenient access from Salt Lake City. Big Cottonwood Creek flows through the area, providing trout fishing opportunities, while nearby trails accommodate hiking and mountain biking. The facility includes individual picnic sites and group sites, all equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Some sites feature grills and serving tables. A historic stone amphitheater is available for group reservations. Flush toilets are provided seasonally, but visitors must bring their own drinking water. Roads, parking spurs, and footpaths are fully paved. This is a watershed protection area with strict regulations: pets are prohibited (service animals only) with fines up to $650 for violations. Swimming and wading are not permitted. The area is designated bear country, so all food and trash must be stored securely.
