* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 24 inches with locally higher accumulations across the Upper Cottonwoods in excess of 3 feet. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. * WHERE...The Wasatch Mountains, Wasatch Back, and Western Uinta Mountains. * WHEN...From Monday afternoon through late Wednesday night. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult at times. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first round of snow is expected to move in Monday evening continuing into Tuesday afternoon. A brief lull is expected Tuesday afternoon before ramping up again Tuesday evening with the heaviest snow of this event expected to occur on Wednesday.

Storm Mountain Day Use Area provides convenient access to Big Cottonwood Canyon recreation just 3 miles from the canyon entrance. Set among mature oak and aspen trees at the base of Storm Mountain, the picnic area features a mix of reservable group sites and individual first-come, first-served sites, all equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Big Cottonwood Creek flows through the area, offering trout fishing opportunities. The facility includes a historic stone amphitheater available for reservation, flush toilets, horseshoe pits, and paved roads and parking areas. Most sites are accessible. A playground provides entertainment for children. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. daily during the operating season. As a watershed area providing drinking water for Salt Lake City, pets are strictly prohibited. Wading and water play are not allowed. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring Big Cottonwood Canyon's numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, rock climbing areas, and nearby attractions including Solitude Mountain Resort.
Directions
From I-215, take the 6200 South exit and travel a mile east to Wasatch Blvd. Take Wasatch Blvd a mile south to junction with Big Cottonwood Canyon/Highway 190. Turn left at the junction and travel up Big Cottonwood Canyon 2.8 miles to the picnic area.
