About

Lower Onion Creek Campground occupies a scenic stretch along the Colorado River in Utah's red rock country, managed by the BLM Moab Field Office. The 21 individual campsites provide direct views of Fisher Towers and the dramatic sandstone formations that define this region. Two boat ramps offer convenient river access for rafters and kayakers, though the Colorado's dangerous undercurrents make life jackets essential. The campground serves as a basecamp for varied recreation: popular 4WD roads wind through the surrounding terrain, world-class rock climbing awaits at Fisher Towers, and numerous hiking trails explore the canyon country. Individual sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis at $20 per night (cash or check only), limited to 10 people and two vehicles per site. Two group sites accommodate up to 30 people each and can be reserved through Recreation.gov. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets, fire grates, and picnic tables, but no potable water, hookups, or dump station. Campers should stock up on water and supplies in Moab before arriving. A 14-night stay limit applies within any 30 consecutive day period.

Directions

From the junction of Hwy 191 and Hwy 128, drive east 22 miles along the Colorado River on Highway 128. Turn left (across from the Fisher Towers sign) and drive 1.5 miles on the gravel road to the campground.
