About
Navajo Lake Campground occupies a scenic location on the south shore of Navajo Lake in Dixie National Forest, approximately 25 miles east of Cedar City via Scenic Byway SR 14. At an elevation over 9,000 feet, the campground offers cool mountain temperatures and spectacular recreational opportunities. The campground features 15 single sites, one double site, and 11 walk-in tent-only sites, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Navajo Lake was created when an ancient lava flow dammed the valley, forming a unique geological feature where water travels beneath the lake through a 2-mile lava tube before emerging at Cascade Falls. The lake provides excellent opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and small boat launching via a primitive dirt ramp within the campground. Nearby Navajo Lake Lodge offers boat rentals, a boat dock, and rustic cabin lodging. Hiking and mountain biking are outstanding here, with the campground providing access to the 11-mile Navajo Lake Loop Trail, a popular cycling route, and the 32-mile Virgin River Rim Trail, which offers panoramic views of Zion National Park, the Virgin River Rim, and the Kolob Plateau. Cedar Breaks National Monument is just 10 miles away, and the Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area nearby features miles of trails through stands of ancient bristlecone pine. The campground's intimate size and lakeside setting make it a special destination for those seeking a quieter mountain camping experience.
