Red Fleet State Park

Red Fleet State Park occupies a striking red sandstone landscape surrounding Red Fleet Reservoir in northeastern Utah. The 29-site campground underwent a complete renovation and reconstruction project, reopening with upgraded facilities including electric and water hookups at all sites, modern shower facilities, and improved beach access. Three sites offer full hookups with sewer connections, and nine sites are pull-through configurations accommodating larger RVs. The reservoir provides opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming, with a boat launch and fish cleaning station on site. The park's most distinctive feature is the Dinosaur Trackway trail, a hike leading to a sandstone shelf preserving over 200 actual dinosaur footprints from the Early Jurassic period. The tracks are remarkably well-preserved and visible at low water levels. The campground sits in high desert terrain at roughly 5,600 feet elevation. Summer temperatures are warm but pleasant for water recreation, while spring and fall offer ideal conditions for hiking. The park operates year-round, though the walk-in season from October through mid-May brings reduced rates.

Directions

From Vernal, Utah: Drive north on US Highway 191 for approximately 13 miles. The park entrance is on the right. From Salt Lake City: Take I-80 east to US-40 east through Heber City and Duchesne, then continue to Vernal and turn north on US-191 for 13 miles. Total distance approximately 188 miles.
