About

Fish Creek Campground is a small, primitive campground nestled in the Spanish Fork - Scofield Recreation Area of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Located 2.5 miles west of Scofield Reservoir at an elevation of 7,720 feet, this remote horse-friendly campground offers 6-8 campsites in an open area with partial shade from surrounding aspen trees. The campground sits adjacent to Fish Creek and serves as the starting point for the 10-mile Fish Creek National Recreation Trail, a designated National Recreation Trail that follows a gentle path along the mountain stream. The campground has recently reopened following extensive remodeling efforts and now features ample parking for horse trailers, vault toilets, campsites, and informational kiosks. Each site includes picnic tables and fire rings, though these amenities are installed seasonally in spring. A horse corral is available for equestrian campers. Fish Creek runs through a wide, gently sloping canyon with dramatic vegetation differences between the north-facing slopes covered in aspens and conifers, and the south-facing sagebrush-covered slopes. The area is popular with hunters due to abundant deer and elk populations. Recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, stream fishing in Fish Creek, and lake fishing at nearby Scofield Reservoir. The Fish Creek UTV trail (60 inch wide) begins just a few miles away. Scofield State Park, located a short distance to the east, offers additional amenities including boat launches, modern facilities, and year-round fishing. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no water or garbage service available.
