Box Elder Campground is nestled in a scenic mountain valley adjacent to the town of Mantua and Mantua Reservoir in northern Utah, just 5 miles east of Brigham City. The campground sits beneath a dense canopy of bottomland hardwoods that provide abundant shade, with Box Elder Creek meandering peacefully through the grounds. This well-maintained facility offers 25 single-family campsites and 4 group sites, all situated on gravel roads and parking spurs. The campground provides flush toilets and potable water during the operating season, along with a first-come, first-served picnic area. Mantua Reservoir lies just one mile from the campground and serves as the primary recreation draw, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing, and swimming in the warmer months. The surrounding area features local trails suitable for hiking and horseback riding, allowing visitors to explore the beautiful mountain landscape. The campground is operated by a concessionaire and enforces a 7-day stay limit. Gates open at 7am and close at 10pm, with quiet hours from 10pm to 6am. Each single site accommodates up to 8 people with one vehicle included, while group sites can handle larger gatherings. For wildlife enthusiasts, the nearby Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge offers an exceptional experience with nearly 80,000 acres of marsh, open water, and mudflats. The refuge features a 12-mile auto tour route perfect for bird watching, wildlife photography, and observing the diverse waterfowl species that use this important habitat. Box Elder Campground's proximity to both mountain recreation and valley wildlife refuges makes it an ideal base camp for exploring the diverse landscapes of northern Utah.

Directions

From Highway 89/91, travel 4.5 miles east of Brigham City. The campground is located near the town of Mantua, between Wellsville and Brigham City.
