About

Blackhawk Campground sits just off the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway at an elevation of 8,000 feet in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The campground is set in a timbered environment with groves of fir, pine, aspen, and Gambel oak trees that provide partial shade and vibrant fall color. Broad grassy meadows surround the tree clusters, with abundant summer wildflowers and wildlife. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the area's extensive trail network. Blackhawk Trail and Loafer Mountain Trail trailheads are located within the campground, and numerous other hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails crisscross the surrounding forest. The Mount Nebo Wilderness Area lies adjacent to the campground, offering pristine mountain scenery, abundant wildlife, and numerous backcountry opportunities. The campground includes a dedicated horse loop with equestrian facilities. Payson Lakes Area is just 5 miles away, offering rainbow and brown trout fishing, canoeing, swimming, and picnicking. The 37-mile Nebo Loop Scenic Byway provides access to high alpine terrain, dense forests, and colorful meadows, including Devil's Kitchen Geological Area with its distinctive red rock hoodoos accessible via a half-mile trail.

Directions

From I-15, take exit 250 toward North Payson/Salem and proceed south on Main Street, then turn east onto 100 North/Highway. Turn south onto 600 East, which becomes the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway/Payson Canyon Road. Travel up the canyon approximately 22.8 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 175 (Blackhawk Campground Road). Travel approximately 1.7 miles to the campground.
