Blackhawk Campground occupies a scenic position along the Nebo Loop National Scenic Byway at an elevation of 8,000 feet in Utah's Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The campground offers 38 sites spread across multiple loops, including standard single and double sites, group sites accommodating up to 50 or 100 people, and equestrian sites equipped with corrals, hitching racks, and water troughs. Dominant vegetation includes fir, pine, aspen, and Gambel oak trees that provide partial shade and vibrant fall color, while broad grassy meadows surround the wooded areas. Recreation opportunities abound. Trailheads for Blackhawk Trail and Loafer Mountain Trail begin within the campground, offering hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The adjacent Mount Nebo Wilderness Area provides pristine backcountry terrain, and Payson Lakes Recreation Area lies just 5 miles away with trout fishing, swimming, and picnicking. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant throughout the area. Amenities include flush toilets, potable water, picnic tables, campfire rings or BBQ grills, and firewood. No hookups or dump station are available. The campground enforces a 16-day stay limit and prohibits ATVs and off-road vehicles. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is required.

Directions

From I-15, take exit 250 toward Payson and proceed south on Main Street. Turn east onto 100 North/Highway, then turn south onto 600 East, which becomes the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway. Travel up Payson Canyon approximately 22 miles to Forest Road 175 (Blackhawk Campground Road) and turn right. Follow approximately 1.7 miles to the campground.
