About

Smith And Morehouse Campground is situated in a scenic conifer and aspen forest at 7,800 feet elevation on the western edge of the Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah, just a short distance from Smith and Morehouse Reservoir. The campground offers 34 paved family sites, most of which are accessible, with picnic tables, campfire rings, and vault toilets. Smith and Morehouse Creek runs through the campground, and the area is home to diverse wildlife including moose and deer. The adjacent reservoir is open to motorized boats with a wakeless speed limit enforced, making it ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for stocked rainbow trout and native fish species. A boat ramp is located on the northwest shore. The moderately trafficked 14.6-mile Smith and Morehouse Trail begins at nearby Ledgefork Campground and leads through forests, meadows, and marshes before spurring off to Erickson Basin and Island Lake. The trail can be challenging to navigate in places, so bringing a map and GPS is recommended. The campground is located just 12 miles from the town of Oakley and provides access to the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, one of Utah's most popular mountain routes. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-75 degrees during the day to 40-50 degrees at night. The campground has a 7-day stay limit, and ATVs are prohibited. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov, with a 2-night minimum on weekends and 3-night minimum on holiday weekends.
