Oowah Campground

Open — Open year-round, first-come, first-served. Snow and snow melt affect access at this 8,800-foot elevation campground. Expect snow conditions as of early December.

About

Oowah Lake Campground sits at 8,800 feet elevation in the spectacular La Sal Mountains of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The campground features 11 tent-only, first-come, first-served campsites situated next to the small but scenic Oowah Lake. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets available but no potable water on-site. The campground serves as a trailhead for multiple hiking routes including the Clarks Lake, Boren Mesa, Moonlight Meadows, and Warner Lake trails. The Trans-La Sal Trail system is also accessible from the campground. A short hike provides spectacular vistas of the Canyonlands region. The day-use area features three large picnic tables for visitors who aren't camping overnight. Fishing is popular at Oowah Lake, and the area is especially scenic during autumn when the dense aspen groves display spectacular fall color. Access to the campground requires driving approximately 2.5 miles on a winding gravel road (Forest Road 076) from the La Sal Mountain Loop Road. Due to the high elevation, snow and snow melt affect access seasonally, and the road conditions can limit accessibility during winter and early spring months.

Directions

From Moab, go south on US 191 about 7 miles to the Ken's Lake/La Sal Mountain Loop Road turn off and turn left onto the county road. Turn right at the T-intersection and continue on the La Sal Loop Road for approximately 10 miles. Turn right at Oowah Campground sign onto Forest Road 076. Drive slowly up the winding gravel road about 2.5 miles to Oowah Campground.
