About

Oowah Lake Campground offers a primitive high-elevation camping experience at 8,800 feet in the La Sal Mountains near Moab, Utah. The campground features 11 tent-only sites arranged around scenic Oowah Lake, a small mountain lake popular with anglers. The first-come, first-served sites provide a quiet escape from the desert heat below, with temperatures significantly cooler than Moab. The campground serves as a basecamp for exploring the La Sal high country. Trail access includes paths to Clarks Lake, Boren Mesa, Moonlight Meadows, and Warner Lake, with options for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A separate day-use area with three large picnic tables accommodates visitors not staying overnight. Campers should come prepared for primitive conditions. No potable water is available, so bring adequate supplies. Vault toilets are provided. The 2.5-mile access road from the La Sal Loop Road is winding gravel, suitable for passenger vehicles but requiring slow, careful driving.
