Skull Creek Campground is nestled in a partially shaded hillside of ponderosa pines and aspens within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. At 7,400 feet elevation, the campground provides a cool mountain escape about 35 miles north of Vernal, Utah, near the junction of Highways 44 and 191. Summer wildflowers dot the landscape, and the area offers easy access to Flaming Gorge Reservoir for boating, fishing, and swimming. The campground has 17 standard nonelectric sites with gravel driveways, picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. There is no potable water available on-site; the nearest water sources are at Greendale and Lodgepole campgrounds. Showers are available for registered campers at Deer Run and Mustang Ridge campgrounds, and dump stations are located at Antelope Flat, Deer Run, Firefighters, and Lodgepole campgrounds for a fee. Nearby attractions include Red Canyon with its visitor center and interpretive displays, Greens Lake for canoeing and trout fishing, and the Red Canyon Rim Trail for hiking and biking. Red Canyon Lodge on Greens Lake offers canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant, and a gift shop. Flaming Gorge Dam provides guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant.

Directions

Located off Highway 44, just west of the junction of Highways 44 and 191 in the Flaming Gorge area, about 35 miles north of Vernal, Utah. The road and parking are paved.
