About
Hunter Canyon Group Site is a Bureau of Land Management group campground situated off Kane Creek Road, 8 miles from Moab, Utah. The site is ideal for groups seeking access to the Hunter Canyon Trail and numerous rock climbing routes in the area. Access to the campground requires navigating a tight, steep switchback on a gravel/dirt road, making it unsuitable for vehicles over 22 feet or those pulling long trailers. The area experiences OHV traffic and associated noise due to its location along Kane Creek Road.
The group site accommodates up to 15 people with space for 4-5 tents and includes a fire ring with grate, picnic tables, and a vault toilet. No water, dump station, or electric hookups are available. The Hunter Canyon Trail starts adjacent to the campsite, following a spring-fed creek for two miles through lush vegetation beneath massive sandstone walls. The area provides access to challenging dirt roads with incredible views, including overlooks of the Colorado River and Hurrah Pass. Nearby canyons to explore include Kane Creek, Hurrah Pass, Amasa Back, and Moonflower Canyon. The site is best suited for spring and fall use, as summer temperatures are challenging with limited shade.
