About
Mackinaw Campground sits on a sagebrush-covered hillside above Fish Lake in the Fishlake National Forest at an elevation of 9,000 feet. The campground offers views of Utah's largest natural mountain lake, which covers 2,500 acres and is renowned for its 20-40 pound Mackinaw lake trout. Aspen trees provide partial shade throughout the sites. The campground has 67 total sites including single-family sites and four group sites that can accommodate up to 20 people each. Facilities include flush toilets, showers, and potable drinking water from a hand pump. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Paved roads and parking spurs provide easy access. There are no hookups, dump station, or camp store on site, though nearby resorts offer supplies. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility. Fish Lake offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, and scuba diving. The 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail begins at neighboring Bowery Creek Campground and climbs through meadows and dense forests to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop. The Lakeshore National Recreation Trail extends around the eastern side of the lake with stunning views. Johnson Valley Reservoir just north of Fish Lake provides additional fishing and boating.
