Sids Mountain Wilderness - The Wedge
Open
— Open year-round for dispersed camping. Camping is prohibited along the canyon rim to preserve day use access; designated campsites are available before reaching the overlook.
About
Located in the San Rafael Swell, The Wedge camping area offers a remote backcountry experience near one of Utah's most spectacular overlooks. Often called the Little Grand Canyon, The Wedge Overlook provides unmatched views of the San Rafael River winding 1,200 feet below through towering sandstone cliffs. The area is managed as wild and undeveloped landscape, with dispersed camping available at designated sites located before reaching the canyon rim.
The camping area sits within and adjacent to the Sids Mountain Wilderness Area, offering access to extensive backcountry hiking, mountain biking trails, and wildlife viewing. The landscape reveals dramatic geology with Assembly Hall Peak, Window Blind Peak, and Bottleneck Peak visible from various vantage points. The area features mixed sagebrush and riparian zones, with opportunities to see mule deer and desert bighorn sheep.
This is a primitive camping experience requiring self-sufficiency. Campers must bring all their own water and pack out all trash. The remote location and lack of facilities make this ideal for experienced campers seeking solitude and dramatic desert scenery. The area provides excellent opportunities for photography, stargazing, and exploring the surrounding wilderness.
