* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, Castle Country, Central Mountains, Eastern Juab/Millard Counties, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete Valley, Sevier Valley, Bryce Canyon Country, Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah, Southern Mountains, Upper Sevier River Valleys, Western Canyonlands, Lower Washington County and Zion National Park. * WHEN...Through Monday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, dry washes, slot canyons, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as slickrock areas and recent burn scars including Widemouth 2, Cottonwood, Monroe Canyon, Forsyth, and other recent burn scars. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Deep moisture will continue to support thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the watch area through Monday evening, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Some areas, particularly across the Sanpete and Sevier Valleys as well as Castle Country, have already seen heavy rainfall and will be even more prone to flooding given saturated soils. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
About
The Wedge Overlook provides unmatched scenery above the deepest section of the San Rafael River canyon, often called Utah's Little Grand Canyon. Two parking areas at either end of the rim connect via a road and trail, offering multiple vantage points with sheer 1,200-foot drops to the river below. Looking downriver, Buckhorn Draw's narrow sandstone-walled canyon meets the main gorge. The adjacent Sids Mountain Wilderness features mesas, slickrock domes, and steep tributary canyons sustaining diverse wildlife including Utah's largest bighorn sheep herd, cougars, and raptors. Primitive backcountry camping, hiking, horseback riding, and photography are permitted in the wilderness. Camping is NOT allowed along the overlook rim itself; designated sites exist before reaching the canyon rim. Visitors should be fully self-sufficient and prepared for changing weather and road conditions. High-clearance 4WD is recommended, especially via Coal Wash/Fixit Pass. No facilities, water, or services are available. Practice Leave No Trace and pack out all trash.
Directions
From Price, take State Route 10 south 28.5 miles. Turn left onto Green River Cutoff Road (EM401). After 12.6 miles, turn right onto Wedge Road (EM405) and continue 6.6 miles to the overlook. From I-70, take Exit 131 north on Cottonwood Wash Road to Buckhorn Draw Road (EM332). All roads are well-maintained gravel but may require 4WD during inclement weather.
