Sunset Campground

About

Sunset Campground occupies a prime location in Bryce Canyon National Park, nestled beneath a ponderosa pine forest at approximately 8,000 feet elevation. The campground's 99 sites are distributed across three loops: Loop A serves RVs and includes two ADA-accessible sites (223 and 224), while Loops B and C are designated tent-only. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Flush toilets and potable water are available seasonally. The campground is positioned just 1.5 miles south of the Visitor Center, placing campers within easy reach of Sunset Point and the heart of Bryce Amphitheater. A free shuttle stop at the campground entrance provides convenient access to popular viewpoints and trailheads from mid-April through mid-October. Generators are permitted only during designated hours (8am-10am and 6pm-8pm). A dump station near North Campground operates mid-May through mid-October at no additional charge for registered campers. Bryce Canyon's dark skies make Sunset Campground an excellent base for stargazing, with over 7,500 stars visible on moonless nights. Forest thinning work is scheduled in and around the campground from June through November 2026, with chainsaw noise expected between 8am and 5pm. Hammocks may not be hung from trees anywhere in the park, and gathering firewood is prohibited.

Directions

From Highway 89 approximately 7 miles south of Panguitch, Utah, travel east on Highway 12 for about 14 miles. Turn south on Highway 63 to the main entrance of Bryce Canyon National Park. Sunset Campground is on the right side of the road approximately 1.5 miles past the Visitor Center.
