Upper Onion Creek Group Site is a BLM-managed campground located along scenic Highway 128, about 40 minutes from Moab. The facility offers two group sites: Site A for equestrian groups (max 20 people, $100/night) with a dedicated horse corral, and Site B (max 25 people, $125/night). Both sites feature fire grates, picnic tables, shade shelters, and vault toilets. The campground provides breathtaking views of Fisher Towers, Castle Valley, the Colorado River canyon, and the La Sal Mountains backdrop. Direct access to the adjacent Onion Creek four-wheel drive road makes this an excellent base for motorized travel and horseback riding. The road features 27 wash crossings and campers should be aware of seasonal rain and flash flood hazards. The location offers proximity to world-class recreation including Arches National Park (40 minutes), Canyonlands National Park (55 minutes), and numerous hiking trails and viewpoints along Highway 128. The Fisher Towers area provides excellent rock climbing and scenic vistas, while boat launches at nearby Lower Onion Creek and Hittle Bottom Campgrounds offer river access. The town of Moab provides full services including dining, shopping, outdoor gear rentals, and tour companies.

Directions

From Moab, drive north to Highway 128 and turn right. Between mile markers 21 and 22, turn right at the sign marking Onion Creek Road. Continue about half a mile. The group sites are on the left side of the road.
