About

The Koosharem Guard Station holds the distinction of being the oldest Forest Service guard station in Utah, originally constructed in 1911. Situated on the Sevier Plateau within Fishlake National Forest at an elevation of approximately 9,500 feet, this historic three-room cabin served generations of forest rangers managing the surrounding landscape. The cabin features basic but complete accommodations including one queen bed, two sets of bunk beds, a functional kitchen, and a bathroom equipped with a flush toilet and drinking water from faucets. The guard station is accessed via a series of forest roads beginning from Koosharem, following Koosharem Canyon Road (FR076), then FR068 and FR163, covering roughly 12 miles through high mountain terrain. Unlike some other guard stations on the Fishlake National Forest that are available for public rental through Recreation.gov, the Koosharem Guard Station is designated for administrative use only and is not open to the general public for overnight stays. The surrounding area provides access to the Paiute ATV Trail system and offers spectacular views of the Sevier Plateau's forests and meadows.
