About

Seely Creek Guard Station sits near the top of the Wasatch Plateau in a beautiful wildflower-filled meadow at approximately 10,000 feet elevation, with Seely Creek flowing along the edge. Built in late 1907 or early 1908, this rustic cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers a unique opportunity to experience Forest Service history while enjoying mountain recreation. The spacious cabin accommodates up to 30 people total, with four single bunks inside (no mattresses provided) and camping space outside for up to 24 additional people in a maximum of six vehicles. The cabin features a table and chairs, a fireplace, and a wood-burning stove for heat. Solar-powered lighting is available for lights and phone charging only. A vault toilet is located approximately 50 feet behind the cabin, and a campfire ring is set up outside the fenced area. Skyline Drive runs along the ridge just above the cabin, providing more than 60 miles of scenic mountain terrain with glacial cirques, spruce-fir and aspen forests, and numerous lakes and reservoirs. The area offers excellent off-road vehicle trails, mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding in summer and fall. Winter transforms the area into a snowmobiling paradise, with cross-country skiing, backcountry skiing, and snowshoeing also popular. Up to 20 horses are permitted, with the surrounding meadow available for picketing or hobbling. Nearby attractions include John August Lake (less than 3 miles away) and Pete's Hole and Soup Bowl (less than 8 miles), offering fishing and alpine scenery.

Directions

From Ephraim, head east on State Highway 29 along Ephraim Canyon for approximately 15 miles to the top of the plateau. At Skyline Drive (Forest Road 150), turn right and travel 0.1 miles, then take Forest Road 2326 to the left. Follow this two-track road for just under a mile to the cabin. Note: The last mile through the meadow often requires four-wheel drive and high clearance vehicles, especially during wet conditions.
