About
Browne Lake Group Sites are located at 8,200 feet elevation in a high mountain meadow next to their namesake lake on the north slope of the Uinta Mountains. The campground consists of four reservable group sites, each accommodating up to 40 people, accessible via a well-maintained dirt road. The sites are partially shaded by pines and aspens with sunny sagebrush meadows, and the lake is visible from most sites with a short trail leading to its shore. Browne Lake offers excellent fishing for rainbow and brook trout and kokanee salmon, as well as non-motorized boating and canoeing. The Leidy Peak Trailhead is located within the campground, and additional hiking trails lead south into the mountains and up Ute Mountain at 8,834 feet. Sheep Creek Lake, known for cutthroat and brook trout, is nearby. The area is popular for ATV riding, with numerous scenic dirt roads and trails crisscrossing the surrounding terrain. Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is approximately 15 miles away, offering world-class fishing, boating, and water sports on the reservoir. The Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam provides spectacular rafting opportunities with unique geology and Native American rock art. Note that no potable water is available at the campground, and the gravel road can become rough and slick when wet.
