About
Twin Creeks Picnic Area is a day-use recreation site located on the shore of Fish Lake at 8,800 feet elevation in Fishlake National Forest. The site sits amid scattered pines and aspens with views of Utah's largest natural mountain lake, which covers 2,500 acres and is famous for its 20-40 pound Mackinaw lake trout. The picnic area features one large accessible group shelter that can accommodate up to 100 people. The shelter covers several picnic tables, grills, and a campfire ring, with power outlets, lights, flush toilets, and drinking water provided. A paved parking area and short trail make the shelter ADA accessible. An accessible boardwalk meanders along Twin Creeks, providing excellent opportunities to view spawning Kokanee salmon, which typically migrate upstream in mid-to-late fall. Fish Lake offers exceptional fishing for Mackinaw lake trout, rainbow trout, and splake. Boating, canoeing, swimming, and scuba diving are popular activities on the lake. Nearby trails include the 5-mile Pelican Canyon Trail, which begins at Bowery Creek Campground and climbs through meadows and dense forests to the 11,633-foot Fish Lake Hightop. The Lakeshore National Recreation Trail extends around the eastern side of the lake, rewarding hikers with stunning views after gaining 900 feet in elevation.
