About

Lodgepole Campground is a peaceful mountain retreat located at 8,000 feet elevation in the Ashley National Forest, just 26 miles north of Vernal, Utah. The campground is nestled in a scenic aspen forest dotted with lodgepole and ponderosa pines, providing pleasant shade and beautiful fall colors. Summer wildflowers are abundant throughout this shady, secluded setting. The campground features 35 non-electric family campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Paved roads and parking spurs accommodate RVs and trailers. Water is available on-site, and firewood can be purchased from the camp host. Vault toilets serve the campground, and trash collection is provided. Dump stations are available at nearby Antelope Flat, Deer Run, and Firefighters campgrounds for a fee, and campers can access showers at Deer Run and Mustang Ridge with proof of camping registration. Many campers use Lodgepole as a base for exploring the spectacular Flaming Gorge Recreation Area. Cedar Springs Marina is less than 10 miles from the campground, providing access to the reservoir's world-class fishing for lake, brown, and rainbow trout. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and scuba diving are popular activities on the water. The nearby Flaming Gorge Dam offers beautiful views and a visitor center with area history exhibits, while the Green River below the dam provides outstanding rafting opportunities through landscapes featuring unique geology, outlaw history, and Native American rock art.

Directions

From Vernal, Utah, travel north on U.S. Highway 191 for 26 miles. From Manila, Utah, travel south on Utah Highway 44 for 28 miles to U.S. Highway 191 and travel 9 miles to the campground. From Rock Springs, Wyoming, take I-80 west toward Green River about 6 miles to the junction with U.S. 191/Flaming Gorge Road. Take U.S. 191 south for about 83 miles, passing through Dutch John.
