About

Orange Olsen Administrative Site sits at 7,000 feet elevation in the Joes Valley Recreation Area with sweeping views of Joes Valley Reservoir. The site consists of two separate rental structures: the Orange Olsen Dwelling accommodates six guests with two single twin beds and two sets of bunk beds in two bedrooms, while the Orange Olsen Cabin sleeps four in one bedroom with two sets of bunk beds. Both facilities come equipped with mattresses, solar-powered lighting, propane stoves, flush toilets, heated showers, and basic cookware including pots, pans, silverware, and utensils. Neither structure has electricity or refrigeration, so visitors must plan accordingly for keeping perishables cool. The setting is an open sagebrush meadow dotted with pinyon-juniper and ponderosa pine trees, offering no natural shade. Water comes from a nearby natural spring and conservation is essential. Cell service is limited in the area. The facilities require guests to pack out all trash, and a combination lock code is needed for entry, obtainable by calling the Ferron Ranger District office. Recreation opportunities abound, with Joes Valley Reservoir offering boating and fishing just minutes away via boat ramps on the east and west shorelines. The 370-mile Arapeen OHV Trail System can be accessed directly from the site. Popular mountain fisheries at Grassy Lake, Pete's Hole, and Potters Ponds are within 10 miles, while renowned bouldering areas in Straight and Cottonwood Canyons are nearby. Joes Valley Campground lies immediately south, with Joes Valley Group Pavilion about a mile away. Boat and utility trailers are permitted, but RVs, motorhomes, and travel trailers are not allowed at either facility.
