About

Cottonwoods River Camp is a primitive riverside campsite situated along the Green River within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Located 8.75 miles below the dam and 1.55 miles downstream from Little Hole, this secluded spot is accessible only by boat from the Spillway or Little Hole boat ramps, or by hiking in from Little Hole along the river trail. The site features one picnic table, a fire ring with benches, two tent pads, and natural shade from the surrounding cottonwood trees. A portable toilet screen is provided, but campers are required to bring their own portable toilet system. Vault toilets are available nearby at the Cottonwood and Red Creek Camp areas. There is no potable water, trash service, or other developed amenities, so visitors must be fully self-sufficient and pack out all garbage. The campground operates year-round with reservations available through Recreation.gov or first-come, first-served registration at the Little Hole Camp Registration Board. A Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area Recreational Use Pass is required in addition to the nightly camping fee.

Directions

From Vernal, UT, take US 191 north for 45 miles. Cross Flaming Gorge Dam and turn right toward the Spillway boat ramp. Alternatively, from Dutch John, take Little Hole Road (FR 075) east for 6 miles to the Little Hole trailhead. The campsite is accessible only by boat (1.55 miles downstream from Little Hole) or by hiking along the Green River trail.
