About

Sunset Campground was a small primitive Forest Service campground located in Farmington Canyon within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, approximately 3.3 miles up Farmington Canyon Road in Davis County. The campground offered 9 single sites and 1 double site nestled in an aspen grove setting alongside Farmington Creek, the largest stream in Davis County. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, Sunset Campground provided basic primitive camping for tent campers and small RVs. The sites were relatively close together in a forested setting accessible via the narrow, steep Farmington Canyon Road. In 2018, the Salt Lake Ranger District permanently closed and decommissioned Sunset Campground due to public safety concerns. The cumulative degradation of the campground's infrastructure no longer met health and safety standards, and the water system was no longer serviceable without extensive repair and replacement. The closure was implemented in a two-year phased approach, with rock barriers placed at the entrance, all damaged infrastructure removed, and restoration work completed to address watershed, erosion, and vegetation concerns. Campers seeking similar experiences in the area are directed to Bountiful Peak Campground, located 3.5 miles southeast.
