For the 2026 season, potable water is not available due to debris flow damage from summer 2023; a new water system is being installed but is not expected to be completed this year. Campers must bring their own water.

Moon Lake Group Campground is located on the scenic shores of Moon Lake in Ashley National Forest, situated at 8,100 feet elevation on the southern slope of the Uinta Mountains. The campground features two large group sites, each capable of accommodating up to 75 people, making it ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and other organized groups. Lodgepole pines and aspens provide partial shade throughout the sites. The area offers excellent recreation opportunities including fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout, kokanee salmon, and splake. Canoes and motorboats are welcome on the lake. Lake Fork Trail and Brown Duck Mountain Loop begin nearby, providing access to the High Uintas Wilderness with its numerous alpine lakes and backcountry fishing. Moon Lake Resort is adjacent, offering limited supplies, groceries, boat rentals, and firewood for purchase.

Directions

From Duchesne, Utah, take Highway 87 north to Mountain Home, then travel on county road to Forest Road 131. The campground is about 36 miles from Duchesne.
