About
Moosehorn Campground is a high-alpine destination at 10,400 feet elevation, nestled on the shores of Moosehorn Lake in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Located just off the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, the campground sits at the base of 11,943-foot Bald Mountain, surrounded by white fir forest and summer wildflowers. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-75°F during the day to 40-50°F at night. The campground offers 33 single-family sites, all with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. Some sites have lake views. Roads and parking spurs are dirt. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but there is no potable water on site. Campers must bring all drinking water needed. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host. Moosehorn Lake provides excellent rainbow trout fishing and is open to non-motorized watercraft only. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities. The Fehr Lake Trail begins just outside the campground, and the popular Bald Mountain Trail is accessible nearby. The High Uintas Wilderness can be reached from several trails along the byway.
Directions
From Salt Lake City, take I-80 east approximately 30 miles to Exit 146 for Highway 40. Go south on Highway 40 for approximately 13 miles, then turn left onto UT Highway 32. Stay on UT-32 for 16 miles through Francis (4-way stop). Turn right onto Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) in Kamas. Travel 31 miles to the campground.
