Starr Spring Campground

About

Starr Spring Campground occupies a scenic location at 6,300 feet elevation on the southeast end of Mount Hillers in the remote Henry Mountains. Managed by the BLM, this campground offers 12 individual campsites and one group site that accommodate both tent camping and RVs. Access is via a dirt road that climbs steadily from Highway 276, gaining over 1,000 feet in elevation. The campground serves as a base for exploring the surrounding wilderness, including Mount Hillers which towers above at 10,723 feet, and the benches and mesas of this uplifted highland. The area is particularly popular with geology enthusiasts and rock hounds drawn to the unique volcanic geology of the Henry Mountains. Late season hunters also frequent the area. A short nature trail loops through the campground area. Campsites include picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. The campground has vault toilets but water availability is limited or seasonal, so campers should bring their own water. The remote location and dirt road access mean that road conditions can be challenging during stormy weather or winter months. Sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations.
