About
Buckboard Campground occupies a scenic location at 8,900 feet elevation in the Abajo Mountains, within the Manti-La Sal National Forest. The site is surrounded by aspens and Gambel oaks that provide partial shade, with summer temperatures typically ranging 75-85°F during the day and 50-60°F at night. Mule deer, wild turkeys, and black bears frequent the area. The campground offers approximately 10 single-family sites and one group site that can accommodate up to 50 guests. Facilities include two vault toilets and seasonal potable water available from a hand pump. Firewood may be collected in and around the campground. Forest Road 105 to the campground is paved, while parking spurs and internal roads are graveled. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, and OHV riding. Several trailheads are nearby, including Robertson's Pasture Trail and Spring Creek Trail. The Abajo Loop State Scenic Backway passes the campground, offering panoramic views from desert floor to peaks over 10,000 feet, though the route is not recommended for large RVs.
