About

Starr Springs Campground sits at 6,300 feet elevation at the southern tip of Utah's Henry Mountains, one of the most isolated mountain ranges in the contiguous United States. The BLM-managed campground offers 12 individual sites and one group site, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Vault toilets serve the camping area. Water availability is inconsistent, so campers should bring their own supply. The Henry Mountains rise dramatically from the surrounding desert, with Mount Hillers towering at 10,723 feet directly above the campground. The range is home to a genetically pure, free-roaming bison herd descended from Yellowstone stock. A nature trail from the campground allows exploration of the surrounding scrub oak and pinyon-juniper habitat. Access requires navigating 5 miles of dirt road from Highway 276, which can become rough and rutted in wet weather. The road may be impassable for large RVs and trailers. This is a truly remote destination with no cell service, ideal for those seeking solitude in Utah's canyon country.

Directions

From Hanksville, travel 25 miles south on Highway 95, then 17 miles southwest on Highway 276 to milepost 17. Turn north on the dirt road and continue 5 miles to the campground.
