Starr Springs Campground

Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. Winter access via the 5-mile dirt road may be limited by snow and weather conditions.

About

Located at 6,300 feet elevation on the southern tip of the Henry Mountains, Starr Springs Campground offers 12 campsites in one of Utah's most remote mountain ranges. Mount Hillers towers above the campground at 10,723 feet, providing opportunities for peak climbing and exploration of the surrounding benches and mesas. The Henry Mountains are the last mountain range to be mapped in the contiguous United States and are home to a resident bison herd. The campground is accessed via a 5-mile dirt road heading north from Highway 276, reached after traveling 25 miles south from Hanksville on Highway 95, then 17 miles southwest on Highway 276. This remote location attracts geology enthusiasts drawn to the area's unique laccolith mountain formation, rock hounds, and hunters. The campground features basic amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, grills, and vault toilets. Visitors must bring all their own water, as reliable water sources are scarce in this arid region. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Winter access may be limited by snow and road conditions. The elevation provides moderate temperatures during summer months, offering relief from the intense heat of the surrounding desert.
